Bring Jenny to your city! - January 12, 2010

Recording - November 5, 2009

Thank you to everyone who donated via www.thepoint.com. I raised enough money to move me through this first phase of recording. So onwards I go! The recording of my new album has been an incredibly special time so far. Each session reveals some tender magic or intricate facet to a song. Recording live with musicians in a room has proven to be more delightful and--to risk sounding flowery, holy--than I would have thought (once I shook off the nerves.) There's a sense of intimacy, collaboration and play in this recording experience that may have been missing from my initial effort (not to knock it--I learned a lot in that one too.) I am blessed with a versatile and committed producer, Darwin Smith who's guiding me, letting me play, but also editing me when need be. I appreciate that guidance so much--it's what I've been craving for a while, actually. It doesn't hurt that Darwin is a talented chef and feeds us all soooo well! (BBQ pork tacos actually helped my voice!) I'm also thrilled that the songs are turning into soundscapes--more like the sorts of things that I listen to over and over. So far I've heard the album sounds a little like Bjork, Michael Hedges, the Album Leaf and Daniel Lanois. (!) The album will be, I think, an eclectic journey between genres and emotions, but with a continuous beauty throughout. I'm very pleased so far and I really can't wait to share it with you and hear your impressions. Thanks again for all of your wonderful words of encouragement.

Plans - July 24, 2009

I'm making plans to go into the studio with the fabulous Darwin Smith for my next record. Darwin is a wildly talented producer from Austin, TX who helped mix and add additional production on my album LIGHT YEAR which is available for purchase on CDBaby and Itunes.

Coming up August 22 I'll be a performer at the Big Sur Spirit Garden as a part of the Womansong festival. I am staying in a treehouse on the beach--it was an obvious yes to that invite! So please if you're in the area, come catch the show. More info in the shows section.

The last 2 weeks of September 2009 I'll be a fellow at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts where I won't focus on music as I've written more than 30 songs this last year (phew) but my poetry and fiction writing. I will have my guitar though, so if you're in the central Virginia area and desire a house concert, let me know!

In the meantime here are some albums with that rare repeat factor that I've recently discovered. These artists have inspired me lately with writing and I do hope you check them out.
